Matthew Smith, Coach
Matthew Smith, a dedicated professional, graduated with a Bachelor's degree from Norwich University and further honed his skills by pursuing a Master’s in Mental Health Counseling with a specialization in Sport Psychology at Boston University. His current focus is on working with athletes of various age groups, aiming to enhance their performance and well-being in relation to their sport. Matthew's experience includes working with athletes at Endicott College and Suffolk University (NCAA DIII).
In addition to his work with athletes, Matthew is a Saugus Firefighter and the head high school hockey coach at St. Mary’s Lynn. He also organizes a summer camp to help athletes improve their mental performance, physical fitness, and on-ice skills.
Matthew has developed a counseling style based on person-centered and cognitive frameworks. His clinical approach also incorporates Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, mindfulness, and breathing techniques. He advocates for the transformative potential of embracing and acting upon one's values, thereby establishing pathways to enhanced vitality and personal flourishing.
When he is not working, Matthew enjoys spending time with his wife and 5 children. He also loves to work out and is passionate about all Boston sports.
